Sometimes I question God…I do. I say that gingerly because my questions don’t necessarily revolve around the unexplainable phenomenon of the universe and honestly I don’t know if questioning the sovereign Creator is a good look or not. But I still do it. It usually […]
Hey girl! Do you know how amazing you are?! Sometimes we can forget just how special and unique God has created us to be. So today, as the world is focused on gifts and chocolate, I challenge you to turn your focus inward and practice self-love. Check […]
Hey, Pretty Lady! The other day I was scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed and came across this incredibly sweet video of a Father and his infant daughter sharing an intimate bonding moment. The father, holding his daughter and gazing at her with evident pride and adoration, expressed the magnitude of his love for her, how much she made him smile, and that she was the best thing that ever happened to him. The little princess cooed back at her father with a smile so bright, clearly reflecting her father’s love and affirmation. Watching that pure expression of love made me shed a few tears for a few different reasons. First, it was just sooooooooo super duper sweet!!! Secondly, I couldn’t help but think how blessed that little girl was to have her dad present in her life both physically and emotionally. And lastly, I shed a tear for the younger me who didn’t get to have that experience, and quite frankly the older me who from time to time still feels the pain. Despite my brief tearful moment, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the perfection of God’s love for us, as his children. You may have childhood scars from abuse or rejection that makes it difficult for you to receive love or leaves you with painful memories. But let me assure you that God’s unending love for you pure and true. As you jump into your week please meditate on these 5 love truths if you’re feeling doubtful or insecure.
1. He can’t shake His thoughts about you!
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! Psalms 139:17-18a (NLT).
Ok, let’s just stop and soak that up for a minute! Gods’ thoughts of you outnumber the grains of sand!? Because I don’t see a reference to a particular beach, I’m going to assume the scripture refers to the sands of the world. How amazing it is to be on the Creator of the universe’s mind so much that He is NEVER not thinking of you– and precious thoughts at that?!
2. He generosity supersedes human comparison
“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him. Matthew 7:9-11 ( NLT).
Any good parent, in their human capacity, recognizes their obligation to provide the basic necessities for their children. Because of God’s supreme sovereignty, he has the ability to give gifts beyond natural necessity. His provisions are all-encompassing, including peace that passes all understanding, joy unspeakable, wisdom, favor, and mercy. All we have to do is ask according to his will.
3. He holds the abandoned ever close
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close. Psalms 27:10.
This verse should resonate well with those of us who have experienced hurt and/or rejection from the very ones whose sole job was to love, nurture and provide for us. As hurtful as it can be to think back to those difficult times, I think it is important to will the mind to recall the people and experiences that God allowed into your life that covered you and provided for those areas of deficit in your life. I believe those are some of the ways that God reminds us that he cares deeply for us
4. He lovingly corrects us
My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be upset when he corrects you. For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:11-12
Some children who don’t have a father figure in their lives lack respect for authority and have difficulty accept correction. However, A father’s job is to lead his family and provide guidance to his children. When done from a place of genuine love discipline can be respected even if it is not understood at the moment
5. He’s a consistent Father
Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. James 1:17
Providing consistency should be the desire to every parent. It provides structure and stability for day-to- day life and teaches children how and if their needs will be met. Regardless of intentions parents are bound to fail. But God’s personality, character, and ways are stable, constant, and unchangeable. His love is steadfast, his mercy and grace are unending and he promises to provide all of our needs according to his riches in Christ Jesus. I don’t know about you, but that’s the kind of predictability and consistency that I like.

Hey Pretty Lady! A first heartbreak is hard to forget right?! I still remember mine. Like every other couple, we had our ups and downs– in hindsight more downs than ups. But I was committed to this person because I really believed God had sent […]

When Tamar Braxton released her very first single “Love and War” from her same-titled debut album, I KNEW it was going to be a hit! It wasn’t just the intro of the beautifully arranged strings or the distinctive way the percussionist dropped the beat midway through the intro. It was the uncanny way the lyrics gave voice to my emotion and accurately the described the atmosphere of my marriage at that moment in time.
I had a feeling other women would relate strongly to it as well. Love and War is one of those “love” songs that you can put on repeat and just wallow in your feelings because the marriage struggle is real! And because dang it, Tamar Braxton feels you!
In all of its realness and emotional validation, Love and War has the capacity to teach us about marriage and to identify the unproductive cycles that can keep you stuck in a war zone and suck the love right out of your marriage if you aren’t intentional about breaking them. Let’s take a closer look.
Hey, pretty lady! I can’t believe that I’m finally kicking off this blog. The journey here has been both exciting and nerve wrecking at the same time. But I’m definitely ready and looking forward to chatting it up with you and to us getting to […]
